SAGAING
Sagaing lies 21 km south-west of Mandalay on the west bank of Ayeyarwaddy. Sagaing Hills are best known as religious retreat and a centre fro
Buddhistic studies and meditation. The Kaunghmudaw, an enormous dome-shaped
pagoda and Ywahtaung Village, home of the silversmiths, are also places of
interest.
AMARAPURA
Situated about 11 km south of Mandalay, Amarapura is an ancient capital of
the Burmese Monarchy. Interesting sites to be seen are Patodawgyi Pagoda, U
Bein Bridge and silk weaving Industry.
INWA (AVA)
A historical capital with the impressive Maha Aung Mye Bonzan Monastery,
which is a fine example of Burmese masonry and art and architecture.

MINGUN
About 11 km upriver from Mandalay on the opposite bank of the Ayeyarwaddy
River. Mingun is noted for its huge unfinished Pagoda and the enormous "Mingun
Bell", the largest ringing bell in the world. A short boat trip to Mingun
from Mandalay is a pleasant one with plenty to see along the way.
