INLE LAKE
Just
a short plane flight away from Yangon in the cool green highlands of Shan
State, and yet seemingly worlds apart from the rest of Myanmar, lies Inle
Lake in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The lake itself sits of a
pleasant 2900 feet above sea level and is famous for its leg rowers,
floating markets and prolific birdlife. In this unique wetland environment,
whole villages sit on floating islands on the lake. Colourful hill tribes
inhabit the surrounding fertile valleys and forested mountaintops, and their
hand-woven silks are a speciality of the region.

Phaung-daw-oo Pagoda
One of the famous principal shrines in Myanmar, this pagoda houses five
small Buddha images. Once a year , in end September or early October, there
is a pagoda festival during which the four Buddha images are rowed around
the Lake in a colourful barge.
Mine Thauk Market
A large and bustling market where one can find a real local atmosphere with
a variety of produce from the lake. Other places of interest in the lake are
Paya Pauk Pagoda, Zakah village and Nga Phe monastery.
